Fall Focus 2008
Fall Focus 2008 will be
held in Dallas, Texas in
November. Lisa Harper,
master storyteller,
speaker and author, will
be the keynote speaker
as PWOC women from
around the world
gather to glorify, testify and
simplify. Over 1000 women will
there praising God, learning,
connecting, and building
relationships. Don't you want to be
one of them? Now is the time to
start planning and preparing for this
trip. The cost for a quad room is
$285. This includes room, meals
and registration fees. The other
large expense will be airfare to
Dallas. Start saving your money
now! It's well worth the sacrifice.
Plan to arrive by 5 pm on Thursday,
November 13th and plan to depart
the afternoon of Sunday,
November 16th. Registration
begins in August, even before we
have our fall kickoff, so now is the
time to pray about attending. You
can get more information online at
encesTraining/FF/FFHome.html. Ft.
Belvoir specific registration and
additional information will be
communicated once it s available.
Open Air Faith Festival
and Concert
The Fort Belvoir Staff Chaplains
Directorate will conduct an Open
Air Faith Festival & Concert on 24
May 2008 from 1000-2000. All
activities will take place on Fort
Belvoir Parade (P1) Field along
Belvoir Road. This event is free and
open to all Military ID Card holders.
Non-military decal vehicles must
enter off of Rt. 1 through the Tulley
Gate. The purpose of this event is to
honor God, country, and Soldiers,
unite communities of faith on Fort
Belvoir, inform the greater Fort
Belvoir community of the religious
services available to all, and to
inspire people of all ages through
continuous praise & worship music
and prayers. There will be a kid
zone for kids, plus food and craft
vendors for all. Bring your blankets
and lawn chairs. The music artists
include Antonia Lawrence, Bishop
Bruce Parham, Fred McKinnon,
Jason Crabb, Martha Munizzi, Mary
Alessi, SONICFLOOd and a few
local artists. We are also looking for
volunteers to assist us with this great
event! If you are interested in
volunteering or receiving more
information, please contact

Tips by Moms for
Moms
Mother s Day
Time Away Gift
Think outside the box when you are
asked what you would like to
receive as a gift for your birthday or
Mother's Day. You might want to
ask for a night away at a hotel by
yourself. You could read, watch
any television show you wanted,
scrapbook all night, or sleep until
noon!
Summer
Summer Entertainment
Have friends and neighbors over for
an art show, craft sale, or backyard
circus. Ask other neighborhood
moms to help with the details. Have
as many kids as possible
participate--and enjoy everyone's
talents!
Summer Ideas
Let kids find their imaginations
again. Make foil boats to sail down
the street gutters after a hard rain
hits and the sewers can't handle
the flow. Give them a corner of the
yard to dig in--kids are washable!
Go on a picnic: grab the juice,
chips, and some PBJs and go. Pick
a shady area and spread a
blanket. Enjoy your time together!
Car Kit
Keep a "kit" in the car: I
have a plastic bin with
tennis balls, water
bottles, shoes,
sunscreen, medicine, beach
towels, and extra swim suits. That
way, if we're out and about, and
decide to just stop at the pool, we
can, or if we want to stop at a park,
we have stuff to play with.
Library
The public library is a mom's best
friend. There are so many activities
at the public library for kids during
the summer, and they're usually
free!
Routine
Have a routine. Sometimes, in the
summer, I just kind of float through
my days, but I find my children and
I do better if we have some kind of
routine. Both of my children, aged
4 and 7, have chores to do in the
morning. I find if they are given
constructive things to do and we
have a loose routine, things go
more smoothly than if it is just a
free-for-all.
Encourage Reading
Encourage your
children to read 15
minutes a day this
summer by offering a
reward or treat when
they finish a book. Let them
choose the books and the treat. It
can be something as simple as an
ice cream cone!
Don t Over Schedule
Don't over-schedule your kids.
Summer is supposed to be a
relaxing time, a vacation from
school and endless activities. You
will find yourself as tired at the end
of the summer as during the school
year. RELAX! You deserve it and
the kids do too.
Brainstorm
Before summer vacation
begins, we let the kids
brainstorm about things
they would really like to
do. Surprisingly, they are rarely
hard or expensive. It might be "go
get ice cream" or "have 3
sleepovers with friends." This
activity gives them some ownership
of the family activities.
From Hearts at Home; www.hearts-
PWOC will be manning the Chapel
Information Booth. We are asking for
volunteers to help staff the booth for the
event and will be responsible for
distributing provided material. Spouses
and older children are also welcome to
help. Make it a family affair. Signup will
be available online and at PWOC.

"Dancing With God"
Submitted by Michele
Ackerman/Wed. PWOC Member
Author Unknown
When I meditated on the word
GUIDANCE, I kept seeing "dance"
at the end of the word. I remember
reading that doing God's will is a lot
like dancing. When two people try
to lead, nothing feels right. The
movement doesn't flow with the
music, and everything is quite
uncomfortable and jerky. When
one person realizes that and lets
the other lead, both bodies begin
to flow with the music. One gives
gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge
to the back or by pressing lightly in
one direction or another. It's as if
two become one body, moving
beautifully. The dance takes
surrender, willingness, and
attentiveness from one person and
gentle guidance and skill from the
other.
My eyes drew back to the word
GUIDANCE. When I saw "G" I
thought of God, followed by "U"
and "I". "God" "U" and "I" dance.
God you and I dance. As I lowered
my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about
my life. Once again, I became
willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that
God's blessings and mercies are
upon you on this day and
everyday. May you abide in God,
as God abides in you. Dance
together with God, trusting God to
lead and guide you through each
session of your life.
Refreshment Corner
Striving for perfection is a painful
process no matter if you re trying to
achieve the perfect body or the
perfect walk with God. Perfection
is a myth, really. We are made
perfect through Christ Jesus--not
through working it as hard as we
can. If we keep our eyes on Jesus,
He will cause us to succeed.
Michelle Medlock Adams
No one, no matter how sinister his
heart, can thwart the plans God
has for our lives. When we stand
back and marvel at the ways of
God, they are too wonderful to
describe.
Sheila Walsh
When God gives you a
talent and you are
willing to use it for his
glory, he opens doors for
you to use it. His timing
is perfect, and his plan is
wonderful.
Thelma Wells
I firmly believe we can do what we
set our mind to It takes time and
commitment and faith, but God is
in the business of miracles. Don t
give up. You have no idea what s
ahead for you.
Luci Swindoll
Our goal is not just to
learn to love but also
to grow in our
capacity to love well.
No one has ever seen
God, but when we
love beyond our
abilities, people will see
Him in us. More than our teaching,
serving, or exhorting, God manifests
Himself through us when we
love....But part of the problem we
have in learning to love others is
that we don t take time to let God
minister to and love on us....Unless
He fills us with love, we will be
unable to pour out God s love on
others.

Christian Ways to
Reduce Stress
An Angel says,
"Never borrow from
the future. If you
worry about what
may happen
tomorrow and it doesn't happen,
you have worried in vain. Even if it
does happen, you have to worry
twice."
1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start
the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit
into your time schedule or that will
compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable
others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is
often not enough, two are often
too many
8. Allow extra time to do things and
to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big
changes and difficult projects over
time; don't lump the hard things all
together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns.
If a situation is a concern, find out
what God would have you do and
let go of the anxiety. If you can't do
anything about a situation, forget
it.
12. Live within your budget; don't
use credit cards for ordinary
purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key
in your wallet, an extra house key
buried in the garden, extra stamps,
etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This
single piece of advice can prevent
an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You
everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read
while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has
its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving
that can help improve your quality
of life.
21. Write down thoughts and
inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be
alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God
on the spot. Try to nip small
problems in the bud. Don't wait
until it's time to go to bed to try and
pray.
24. Make friends with Godly
people.
25. Keep a folder of favorite
scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest
bridge between despair and hope
is often a good "Thank you Jesus ."
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not
yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude
(most people are doing the best
they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they
probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33 Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are
not the general manager of the
universe.

A Lesson From Mother Robin
I woke up one morning only to see
Our baby robins had been set free.
Released from the bounds of their little home
Free now to fly and all over roam.
Except for two who became entrapped.
By the screening in which our porch was wrapped.
They cried out for help but to no avail,
When Mother Robin appeared to answer their wail.
She couldn t reach them because of the screen
And seemed a bit frustrated, if you know what I mean.
She chirped to them, just go thru the door,
Only to see them bewildered yet more.
She kept on encouraging them to flee.
I can t force you out, but just follow me.
Finally, the babies hopped thru the opening.
Now free again, just what she was hoping.
With great courage and spirit they were in flight
Soaring to the next yard with all of their might.
I m sure Mother Robin filled with bird-pride.
As she launched her new family into the world outside.
I kinda think that with mother s feelings
She d still watch out for her little fledglings.
How just like a Mother to give words of advice.
With wisdom to know just what will suffice.
While watching her children learn from life s lessons.
Hoping and praying she provided good sessions
To equip them well for choices they d make.
Her heart kept open when they d make a mistake.
